The Kalasatama metro service disruption in 2027
The Junatie metro bridge between Kalasatama and Sörnäinen will be replaced between 2026 and 2028. Metro service will be interrupted between Herttoniemi and Hakaniemi stations from 3 May to 8 December 2027. Kalasatama metro station will be closed from 26 April to 15 December 2027.

The replacement of the Junatie metro bridge will require the suspension of metro service for approximately seven months in 2027. This suspension will last from 3 May to 8 December 2027.
During this period, the metro will run from the west to Hakaniemi and from the east to Herttoniemi.
Kalasatama metro station will be closed from 26 April to 15 December 2027 due to construction work on the metro bridge. The station will be closed during the metro service interruption, as well as one week before and one week after this period. During these two weeks, metro trains will pass the station without stopping.
HSL Helsinki Region Transport is planning a replacement service for the duration of the metro service interruption.
Suspending the metro service is necessary
The Junatie metro bridge is in need of replacement. The bridge was originally designed according to the design guidelines of the 1970s and no longer meets current load-bearing requirements.
Recent inspections have revealed deficiencies in the load-bearing capacity of the bridge. In winter 2025, the bridge was outfitted with temporary supports as a risk management measure to allow the metro service to continue safely.
The bridge is currently safe to use, but a decision has been made to bring its replacement forward. The aim is to ensure that the bridge does not have to be closed unexpectedly. The replacement will be carried out in a systematic way, and carefully planned replacement services will be provided during the metro service suspension.

Metro stations and bridges to be renovated during the metro service interruption
Urban Transport will make extensive use of the metro service interruption required for the renewal of the Junatie metro bridge. We will renovate the Sörnäinen and Kulosaari metro stations as well as bridges located within the area affected by the metro interruption.
The work will be concentrated during the metro closure to minimise disruption to passengers.
Improving fire safety at Sörnäinen station
We will renovate Sörnäinen metro station during 2027–2028. The project includes major upgrades to fire safety systems and building services engineering. At the same time, the escalators and inclined lifts leading to the platform level will be renewed.

Kulosaari station to be renovated
At the station, escalators, lighting, ceiling and wall surfaces, and technical systems will be renewed and repaired.
Bridge repairs in the metro interruption area
During the metro interruption, repairs will be carried out on the Kulosaari metro bridge, the Kulosaari pedestrian tunnel, the northern metro bridge at Kulosaari station, and the Tupasaarentie metro bridge. In addition, the Naurissalmi metro bridge will be completely renewed.
