Urban rail projects and maintenance

Public transport requires tracks, stations, stops and tunnels. Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd is responsible for the infrastructure of Helsinki’s public transport.

We are in charge of the public transport infrastructure

We build the tram and metro tracks, stops and depots, renovate metro stations, manage and maintain metro stations and depots, and take care of the electrical systems and communication devices. We also maintain the ticket machines.

Major rail transport projects

Our unique expertise is required for several major rail transport projects in the region, such as the Jokeri Light Rail, the Crown Bridges and the tramline from Kalasatama to Pasila.

Depot projects

The depot projects are a part of the development plan in preparation for the growth of the inner city’s light rail fleet and the needs of new light rail vehicles.

Improving metro capacity and reliability

Based on the current estimates, the metro capacity needs to be increased by the early 2030s.

Track construction sites and fleet maintenance

We maintain and upgrade both the metro trains and trams. In addition to this, we provide various maintenance and repair services related to track and electricity infrastructure.
