Bicycle Garage services developed in stages

Mies menossa pyörän kanssa Pyörätalliin.

The Kaisantunneli Bicycle Garage is a pilot project, which is being developed in stages. The aim is to develop solutions that can be duplicated in other park-and-ride facilities in the future. Security has been identified as the most important objective in bicycle storage, which is why the Bicycle Garage was designed with the aim of finding solutions that guarantee both security and good usability.

At the initial stage of the pilot project, the Bicycle Garage’s access control is based on the HSL card: you can enter the garage by showing your HSL card to the reader at the door. Any HSL card will work, even though the reader is not the same as the ones found on public transport vehicles. At this stage, using the Bicycle Garage does not require registration.

In the autumn, registration as a user of the Bicycle Garage will become mandatory and users will be required to link their HSL card to their customer account. After registration, the HSL card will serve as a key to the garage. Registration will improve the security of the parking facility.

HSL and its partners are currently evaluating a new technical solution for the Bicycle Garage access control that is not based on the use of the HSL card. The aim is to have the new solution in place as soon as possible, but the exact schedule is not yet known.

In the pilot stage, users of the Bicycle Garage can charge their electric bike batteries free of charge while parked in the Bicycle Garage. Cyclists who wish to do so will need to bring their own charger, however.

Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd and HSL will be monitoring and collecting feedback on the use of the Bicycle Garage.

Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd, together with its partners, produces and develops various cycling traffic services in Helsinki. Offering the services of the Bicycle Garage is part of the overall promotion of cycling traffic.
