Performances and filming
Are you planning a shoot on board a tram or metro, in the metro station or on the Suomenlinna ferry? Please contact us first.
You do not need a separate licence to shoot on board a tram or metro, in the metro station or on the Suomenlinna ferry, but we would like you to contact us so that we may provide you with further instructions concerning safety, filming and photography and inform our staff of the shoot.
We request that filming crew work in a manner that disturbs the journeys of passengers as little as possible. Therefore, filming crews should be as small as possible. We also recommend that filming does not take place during peak traffic hours from 7.00 to 9.00 and 15.00 to 17.00 on weekdays.
Each crew member must have a valid ticket when on board or at the metro station when within a paid area.

Utilising our premises as venues
Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd owns and manages metro stations and public transport stops as well as metro trains and trams, and, thereby, it also makes decisions about allowing third parties to utilise these premises as venues.
Metropolitan Area Transport can also participate in the event production as a partner and, this way, allow the premises to be used as a venue. As a rule, we do not permit the use of any premises managed by us for purposes of marketing or promoting any private company, commercial product or ideological/religious or political view. Premises are also not rented for these purposes, excluding the hiring of trams or metro trains for the listed price for charter transport, in which case marketing is possible.
We prefer our premises to be used for purposes that promote the liveliness of the city and the comfort of passengers, and for non-commercial activities that are possibly already supported by the City of Helsinki. We do not, however, automatically approve event requests, as the amount of work and costs must be evaluated separately for each event. In addition to this, we must also take impartiality towards different organisers into account. In most cases, approved events may utilise the premises free of charge. We will also not compensate the event producer for any costs.
Contacts concerning events
- The possibility to use Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd premises for events must be enquired by email well in advance, taking the scope of the event into consideration: esiintymiset@kaupunkiliikenne.fi.
- In regard to sheltered stops, the organiser should also seek approval from their owner, JCDecaux outdoor advertising company.
